Poised in bronze
A unique winged creature, created by the hand of an artist, prepares to ascend.
The Hamburg-based artist and master goldsmith Sabine Klarner, is well known for highly imaginative pieces of jewelry made of gold, silver, and gemstones. For Garpa she has created this dragonfly – simultaneously intricate and robust, with a body made of bronze and wings of grey antique glass. Each of the 24 pieces is delivered with a numbered, original aquarelle.
First of all, the dragonfly was modelled in silver by the artist, and then cast, in an elaborate lost-wax process, at an art foundry. After undergoing an artificial ageing process, the bronze finally shimmers with a hue of pale turquoise. The antique glass for the wings – cut to size by a specialist glasscutter – comes from a traditional Oberpfälzer manufactory.
The small work of art, made of turquoise patinated bronze and grey antique glass, has a wingspan of 22 centimeters and overall length of 27 centimeters. A small glass tube, inserted in the body, enables use as a vase. An optional extra: stylized bronze twig for decorative presentation.
